PROGRAM: cat house

The task of the next workshop group - led by Katarzyna Osipowicz-Grabowska and Piotr Grabowski from the GAB studio in Poznań - was to create houses for the cats living in the „Nad Wartą” Allotment Plots. The group was tasked with creating shelters for at least seven cats. The location indicated by the cat feeders - in the common space of the plots - next to the public rubbish bins, and the atmosphere and architecture of the plots - strongly influenced the final form proposed by the workshop participants. The designers have created two interconnected platforms - reminiscent in form of shelves in garden shops or local health food stalls - on which the feeders are free to position single, double or triple houses according to their current needs. The proposed form not only protects the houses from harsh weather conditions, but also fits perfectly with the idyllic character of the allotment plots. Another feature that definitely distinguishes the project of this group is the proposed removable roof, this solution is intended to make it easier for cat guardians - maintenance and cleaning of the individual modules. It is covered with red bituminous roofing - the alignment of which resembles roof tiles, which is clearly associated with idyllic ‚allotment architecture’.
